Artificial selection

Darwin studied artificial selection in great detail. It formed the basis of the first chapter of On the Origin of Species, and also two volumes on Variation under Domestication.  In both he drew on his observations and experiments with domesticated plants and animals, such as dogs, fancy pigeons and cabbages.

For more pictures of fancy pigeons, see our dedicated gallery.
